Oddschecker has Ainsworth as clear favourite. 5/4 with two bookies. I like Gareth but I'm not sure he's ready for the nest of vipers that is QPR boss.

Onwards and upwards and all that BUT are any of these an improvement on Warburton? Ainsworth has done extremely well at Wycombe for instance but he hasnt achieved what Warburton has (ie managed consistently at this level). So sentiment aside, shouldn't the board be setting their sights higher than a league below us? Someone proven at this level who can climb out of the league, (in the warnock/bruce mould but playing more attractive football as we've become accustomed to).
Daniel Farke or Nuno Espirito Santo would be my choice if money allows.

Its hard to tell, as there are so many unknowns.
I just wish the club would get on with it though ... The fixtures come out 4 weeks tomorrow and the season starts 9 weeks this weekend.

Zenith, I echo your sentiments. How long is this going to drag on?

I suppose Ferdinand is waiting on Campbell's decision.

What ever decision the club makes I hope fans preference is taken into consideration. We need the manager to be installed the soonest in order to make new signings and stable the Ship for the forth coming season.
Please let's stable the ship Again, because at the moment I belive we are sinking.

Reference to ships, I'd say we're up ship creek without a paddle and are like a ship aground.Ironman442 wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 10:21 amWhat ever decision the club makes I hope fans preference is taken into consideration. Me too. The season finished less than three weeks ago, and I'm sure the first thing a lot of people involved in football do at that point is head off on holiday. I don't think it's particularly surprising that it isn't all done and dusted yet.

You could say it's 5 weeks bearing in mind he was told 2 weeks before the end of the season. You would've thought though that behind the scenes they would've had a short list in mind well before telling him and would have started working on that list immediately. Albeit I do understand it would be difficult with managers currently in a job with something to play for.

I can't disagree with your logic Lee but from the outside looking in it would appear that Warbs was having his P45 prepared as of the defeat at home to Peterborough on the 20th March. I appreciate that 'succession planning' is not particularly something that can be applied to football but the longer this goes on the less preparation time there will be for next season, which starts unusually early due to the World Cup.
Question everything.

It truly was the worst performance of the season but I'm not convinced that was the moment they definitely decided to get rid, more that it was a serious likelihood. We were only 2 points away at the time and 8 games left so there were plenty of opportunities to make top six.WA Hoop wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 12:44 amI can't disagree with your logic Lee but from the outside looking in it would appear that Warbs was having his P45 prepared as of the defeat at home to Peterborough on the 20th March. Should they have been looking after that game? Probably, but imagine how incredibly disrespectful that would have looked upon a manager who still had us in 8th place. The fan base would have been on fire and surely it could only have had a massively negative impact on the dressing room. We would have place blame for that failure squarely on the shoulders of the board. You are quite correct though that time is pressing, I'd like to have this was sorted out ASAP, but I'd like even more if they made the right decision.

Re: Which manager would you prefer?
Quite a few of the names who have been touted (Manning, Robinson, Ainsworth, Rowett) were managing teams who were in with a shout of play-off places going into the last couple of weeks of the season. I'm sure they would have had a shortlist of possible candidates, but in those circumstances, it would pretty hard to move things forward. We could have approached someone who was out of work, like Hughton, but that doesn't seem as if it's giving yourselves the best possible chance to pick the right man.beaglebum wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 8:16 pmYou could say it's 5 weeks bearing in mind he was told 2 weeks before the end of the season. Re: Which manager would you prefer?
From what I've read the Board were seemingly incandescent with rage after that defeat and my limited understanding of the situation is that only a minor miracle was going to save Warbs tenure. Again, only going by what I've read but also by the actions of our DoF in how he 'communicated' Warbs forthcoming departure, I'm not sure that a great deal of respect has been afforded to our most successful manager in a decade.Lee Gib wrote: ↑Fri May 27, 2022 7:27 amIt truly was the worst performance of the season but I'm not convinced that was the moment they definitely decided to get rid, more that it was a serious likelihood.
