Terry Venables RIP

Post by pindarus » Sun Nov 26, 2023 1:11 pm

Has passed away aged 80.
A key part of our successful era both as a player and a manager.

Truly one of the greatest Rangers of all time. As player and manager. I will always remember singing Terry Venables' blue and white army at matches particularly Highbury in '82. What a time that was. Very, very sad news indeed.

What a fantastic time that was to be a QPR supporter. They were definitely the happiest times for me . The way he transformed us.

It's a shame that the FA didn't truly get behind him when we was our National manager.

Thanks Terry for the happiness you brought us.

Rip.

Absolutely a club legend, and a man who was often ahead of his time. RiP Terry.

Really sad news. He was the mastermind of the most succesful Rangers team in our history. A period in which I was really proud to support the R's.
Back then I thought we would always be like that. Oh dear.

I remember he took very clever free kicks - not just blasting it into the wall or a danger to low flying aircraft.
A world apart from the baffled mob we have now.

Heard a wonderful anecdote of his on radio today concerning Jimmy Greaves back in the day,
could listen to El Tel all day. Great wit, raconteur, bon vivant and of course coach.

Always thought had he stayed we could have possibly won the league. We had such a great manager and team back then. The TV years were my most satisfying as a fan.

I'm hoping no one digs up evidence to the contrary but he was a great penalty taker and scored something like 32 on the trot but then missed one and refused to take any more.

Really was a great player and coach.
