I'm using common sense and my eyes. Why should a young couple with a kid be unable to have a home simply because an economic migrant is claiming asylum in a country not on their border? The UK was a soft target under New Labour because they encouraged mass immigration for ideological purposes, in order to keep the housing market bubble high (and therefore get the votes of middle England too), and to make human rights/immigration lawyers rich. Cherie Blair was even parading an axe murderer around on telly last week as an example to the youth of today.
As I said, I have my point of view and you guys have yours, and the twain never shall meet. I agree with the original poster; New Labour were a disgusting bunch of meretricious mountebanks and I would have the lot of their heads on spikes at Traitors' Gate.

Granted my local pharmacists are usually Polish but I'm not complaining because they've bothered to get an education and believe politeness is a good thing.
The cities will always have loads of under-the-radar immigrants doing jobs the locals are too spoilt to do and a decent percentage will never have legal status (and never be able to claim benefits or NHS treatment etc) but then the cities have always been like that going back to Roman times.
Remember the "fuss" over Midsomer Murder"? Middle England (all the emptyish bits that make up the majority of our country) is mostly empty of and ignorant of "economic migrants" or migrants of most kinds.
But it's the oldest cry in the book for the unhappy, unfulfilled or just unbalanced. "Blame the outsiders". Rome did it, Stalin did it and Hitler did it (to name a few) and various types leading to Oswald Mosely and then Nick Griffin have tried in the UK. Luckily most Brits have always been far too sane and rational to believe the BS while being able to recognise the benefits immigration has always brought to us (as it has it to most countries).

If the concept of 'Celt' does exist, it's really just another way of saying 'loser'. Those chased to the fringes and wastelands by everyone and anyone who had even the faintest idea of how to pick up and wave a sword. As a group, they're time-wasters at best.
And what DAVEf said. Plus hat doffed to Esox Lucius but a smidgen of sympathy for Steppers' viewpoint. _________________ I'm Ray Gardner. I drink Blackcurrant Tango. Come and get me! |

The largest influx of immigrants to the UK in the last 5 years has been from the EU, something our government can't do anything about and which the CBI said our industries need.
Cameron's speech, like his last appeal to the bigots, is simply a nasty bit of electioneering to win some votes, his policies will do little to change the levels of immigration and their rhetoric and their cuts to ESOL and free English lessons for people on low incomes will simply create a more divided society. He's a reeky muddy-mettled haggard, it really is that simple. |
