Whatever we might feel about Israel it's people mostly seem pragmatic enough to want to live and not see salvation in death (especially a blazing and burning death).

Hands up anyone who actually believes Iran aren't aiming at getting nuclear weapons? And hands up those who feel the whole World won't be so much more at risk if they do.

Iran are going nuclear as a deterrent to Israel, who are much more likely to light the blue touch paper in the first instance.

Yeah, Theocracy is a much more stable form of government than Democracy. No chance of a nutter getting their finger on the button. Rolling Eyes

It's worth being reminded that that the only nutter to have actually pressed the button led the world's 'paragon' of democracy.

No one needs reminding of this.

Everyone needs reminding of this.

Only a matter of time before it all kicks off and Iran becomes Iraq II!
Very worrying times I feel!

Hope you boys haven't forgotten the fact that having pressed the button once, they repeated the exercise three days later!

Are they? They haven't so far nor looked close. And while they might want a deterrent they don't need to use it while they have the USA as a better one.

Personally, I have no real affection for any of the nations of the middle East (though I'd like the oil supplies to continue).

So has Israel having nuclear weapons cause you much worry? And would that worry level go up or down if Iran also had nuclear weapons?

No nation is going to use a nuclear weapon lightly, but I wouldn't put anything past Israel because they've got America behind them. They've also got a mindset that's as fanatical, if not more so, than any Islamic nation.

That said I think a Middle East cold war is what we'll see develop.

An important point is, surely, that they haven't (despite, I'm sure, having elements within their hierarcy that has felt tempted). Would Iran be capable of that kind of control?

Better that than a 'no fly zone'.
