[To be fair, though, Abbot is (or was) a sponsor of an award with the Telegraph that recognises an excellent - no, wonderful - pub in Newcastle. The Crown Posada. I was in there the other night. Several top beers an Ella Fitzgerald on the record player. No CD nonsense, a proper old record player. Sadly, I won't have a chance to get back there for almost a fortnight.

Cracking pub, spent the afternoon before the Newcastle game in there. Beer of the weekend though was the Stallion in the Head of Steam on Sunday afternoon.

Is that a Hambleton beer, Beefy? They're tip-top.

Newcastle does seem to have a mixture of some of the best pubs around ... and some of the worst. Although it's no longer maintained, the Burglar's Dog is a great guide to them, as the entry for the CP

No Weld for me pre-match - and no walking boots either. My lad and his girlfriend are taking the GLW and me to lunch. With my birthday approaching, I might be able to swing a post-match pint.

BTW, are the streets between Uxbridge & Goldhawk Road still free of parking restrictions on Saturdays? I'm an occasional visitor these days and those trips have tended to be by rail.

And the food in the Weld is worthy of us but not him?poor.

Have your lunch in the weld and enjoy some fine ales and inane banter.

No, you've just recognised me for what I am. And I did offer to buy you a pint in Newcastle! I haven't ruled out after the game either!

I don't want to make you feel old but 'walking boots on the Goldhawk' was February 2008.

Yeah it's not as if anything ever happens to three-letter Christian named Lib Dems with a penchant for self-aggrandisement is it?
