Really bad decision. But I don't blame Young,(aside from the fact they are his former teammates) if thats gonna help you win the league then cheat. It's up to the F.A. to make sure this doesn't happen
Do you blame shops for people shoplifting too?
Crap analogy.
Shops can only punish within the law so it's the lawmakers job to make the punishment fit the crime and therefore provide deterrent.
With diving, the FA also have the job of introducing some sort of "fear of reprisal", but they haven't.
In cases such as this, where a panel could easily judge that AY could easily have avoided going down - but in fact, exaggerated the contact and the subsequent fall, he should be punished. 3 game ban. End of.
They don't though.
And because they don't - the players carry-on doing it. They shouldn't, but they do and will continue to do so with the manager's blessing as there is too much at stake to NOT take advantage.
Therefore - the only way to stop it is to hand-out retrospective punishment.
So, yes, it is the FA's fault. (Or FIFA/UEFA - take your pick)

The FA have some responsibility as do players who cheat backed up by fans who are happy when their team benefits yet scream blue murder when it happens to them. Didn't see too many on here calling for Zamora to be banned when he tried to get a Sunderland player sent off. Were you blaming the FA then?
Easy to blame the FA for everything, football's failings run deeper than that.

I do want Villa to lose badly but how can the ref give that?
Managers should be telling players to fall over all the time.

Of course! if they didn't lure weak minded shoppers into committing the crime with their shiny baubles and 'must have' advertising then ordinary people would just buy the necessary requites.
Something similar seems to be the received wisdom on the rioters too _________________

Not blaming the FA for "everything". Just blaming them for not stopping diving.
Of course players have responsibility - but as I said, there is too much at stake for them NOT to dive when there is no punishment.
The gentlemanly conduct of 20+ years ago has long-gone. I don't like it either - but we aren't going to end this crap by asking the players to sort the issue.
Just thought of a better punishment for divers. Fourth official to review on video and if an obvious dive - as per today, then the manager of the "wronged team" can nominate one player to have an amnesty for one challenge on the diver. Imagine someone like AY running away everytime that nominated player came within 5 yards of him.
"Diakite's gonna get ya"
Stan the same, I remember one dive in the 70's at home against Manchester City that earned us a penalty, it was on The Big Match.
Rodney said at his book signing in the club shop that if anyone was daft enough to make contact with him in the penalty area he would fall down.
Anyone who remembers watching Rodney play will tell you that he never needed anyone to make contact with him (or even come close to it) for him to go flying. But only if it was to his benefit.
It would help (though I know it's unlikely) if fans were to boo their own players when they dive. I know that Taarabt used to do it when he first started playing for QPR; he still does it occasionally, but less so, and I'd like to think that that's partly because when he does go down like the proverbial sack of potatoes, there's an element in the home crowd that gets on his back. Also, I have to admit that QPR's win against Chelsea feels a little hollow to me because I think Helguson 'went down easily' to win the penalty; not a dive, for sure, but he could easily have stayed on his feet.
No one else is going to take action to stop diving. It's up to us, the fans. If a Rangers player dives (and maybe I'm looking through hoop-tinted spectacles here, but I think we're one of the more honest of the Premier League teams), boo them.
Really bad decision. But I don't blame Young,(aside from the fact they are his former teammates) if thats gonna help you win the league then cheat. It's up to the F.A. to make sure this doesn't happen.
