|
|
West Brom had, if memory serves me correctly, 3 corners in the 1st half. For those of you at the game try and cast your mind back to which QPR player was barking the orders at the other players?
Not one player was doing this. Barton was on the near post for the last corner and I screamed at him to open his mouth and get the guys organised. Now I know we didn't concede from any of the corners WBA had but I was quite stunned with the apparent lack of organisation or somebody taking responsibility and geeing everyone up.
You'd think the captain would automatically take this responsibility on. At times we looked lost especially in the 1st half, we were really off the pace. For me the role of the captain needs to be addressed if we're to survive. |

someone getting on Barton's back? well we must have lost on the weekend then.
If we didn't concede from these corners would it not indicate that we might have been organised for them?
Personally on corners I always thought it was the goalie who took charge. _________________

Were you at West Brom?
Not having a go at Barton but in all honesty if he can't open his mouth and gee players up around him then get somebody else to do that role.
That's what a captain does. |

I agree it is usually the goal keeper who organises from corners. The players will have been briefed on the danger men and who will mark them.
Why some people think shouting at team mates helps I do not know.
On a slightly different note it seems that Hill has responsibility for organising the defence and he is the one pointing and directing team mates to mark up. This leave Anton free to concentrate on marking his player.
I did not expect to say it but Clint must be in the mix for player of the year. |

I was at West Brom and you are talking out of your hat. But as people are fond of having a pop at Barton, you clearly feel it's a fair dig, so fill your boots. I noticed that he called "tails" before kick off - surely a captain would call "heads". |

The same people who assume that if a team is losing at half time, the manage will be 'going mental', or 'giving them a kick up the backside' in the dressing room. I've always thought that unless the situation had been brought about by disregarding instructions then a calm appraisal of weaknesses pus suggestions on how to address them would be more in order. _________________ I'm Ray Gardner. No i wasn't there. I just find it ridiculous that you are nit picking to this extent. You say we didn't concede but still dig him out for not shouting at the players.
You screamed at Barton to organise the players on the last corner and he chose to ignore you? Why was that? Could it be that they hadn't conceded from a corner at that point, so everyone was doing the job required at corners and he felt it better to not scream at every given opportunity.
As I said, its a goalies job to organise people at corners, see Scezny for Arsenal, he was literally dragging defenders around when we had corners at the loft. _________________

Oh and yes you are.
Why do people who start sentences with Not always do the complete opposite of what they say they are not going to do (not Being rude, etc). The only exception is people who say 'Not being funny' without fail what they then say is never funny, nor could it be mistaken for humour. _________________

The most memorable 'communication' discussion I remember from Saturday was between Clint Hill and PK. A simple shout from PK would have allowed him to gather the ball instead of which lunged in and put the ball behind for a corner. Clint then had a right go at PK for not giving him a call.
Shaun Derry was doing a lot of organising and giving directions but I DID see Barton organising a couple of free kicks. Surprisingly (to my mind) Diakite was the one organising the wall, in conjunction with PK, for a free kick we gave away just outside the area and I noticed Adel and Taye discussing their own roles several times, who should go and who should stay I imagine, but Adel has been having a go in recent weeks at geeing the side up when they have needed it. _________________ It's not the despair that will kill you, it's the hope. |

As an ex keeper I can confirm it is his job, and personally I would have been annoyed if someone else started telling everyone where they should be for a corner. Likewise, I used to see it as my job to organise defensive walls at free kicks.
Lastly I would have saved the shot on saturday, but that's also a personal opinion, and I'm convinced that Kenny is carrying an injury because having got to the ball he should have saved it as well! _________________ "I have always thought in the back of my mind cheese and onions". |

| I thought Barton had a good game on Saturday, not sure why he needed to shout and scream at corners, everyone had a job to do and seemed to defend those corners pretty well without the need of someone shouting at them. |

Because he's on 80k a week, so people love finding things to have a go at him for. _________________

I noticed how we were defending set-pieces vs Swansea. I really thought a goal was coming.
I think Kenny is a great keeper. But i would feel more rest-assured if we had a taller more confidant keeper. What looks like a great save from Paddy, would be an easy save for other, IMO.
Punching the ball out and coming out to catch the ball gets me scared. _________________ If Chelsea were playing in my garden, I would close the curtains!
