HOME

Beat WBA, Swansea and draw with Spurs

AWAY

Draw at Villa and Stoke, lose at Sunderland

Total of 9 points which puts them on 38 for the season. We need 38 to stay up as we have a better goal difference. Win both our home games, draw at Chelscum and lose at Citey.

Sorted.

A bit generous considering they average less than a point a game. Also they just lost 3-0 at home to fulham who have one of the worst away records only scoring 8 goals before they played Bolton.

Southgate, it was a worse case senario. Given tonight's result I am not taking anything for granted.

In other words it's pointless predicting results as tonight showed, just leave your seatbelt firmly fastened & go with the ride.

This season will go to the wire i just hope we're still alive come judgement day & even then we've got City away Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

They've also got to play 5 games in two weeks starting on Saturday, all of which will be high pressure games. Hughes thought our performance at West Brom suffered because of the effort the players had put into the Swansea game, this is bound to affect Bolton too.

I think we do have to fancy Bolton to pick up a fair few points from those fixtures. The WBA and Swansea home games are both very winnable given neither have much to play for. And I'm not convinced Sunderland or Stoke away will be as tough as it normally is given neither of those sides has much going on either.
I think we are going to need possibly 2 wins and a draw and probably 3 wins to beat out Bolton. After how lame we were at WBA, I can't really see us beating Tottenham, Chelsea and Stoke. I'm discounting Citeh away because I REALLY can't see us getting anything there.

Fixture pile-up could be a problem but I expect Coyle to (sensibly) target certain winnable home fixtures and rest some legs in others. The infuriating thing is we wouldn't be worrying so much about Bolton lapping us if we'd have turned up at the Hawthorns.

Which came three days after an incredibly intense performance that would have mentally took it out of the team.

Bolton have got this scenario virtually every game for the next two weeks. Not gonna be the stroll a lot of people think it will be for them.

Fair point. It's not going to be a stroll and they're not that good. But I'd still rather be in their posi than ours. After all, They have 18 pnts left to play for and some potentially v winnable home games. We have 12 and face 3 motivated top 6 sides.

My memory of most end-of-seasons is that the sides with "nothing to play for" often turn out to be the most resilient.

Agreed - take the pressure off a team of professional footballers and they tend to show people why they get paid an absolute fortune for what they do...

Bolton do need one extra point than us because of goal difference. They have to go out and win games. I believe we will end up on 35 points minimum. This means Bolton need two wins and a draw to finish above us from their six games. West Brom and Swansea are not easy games and I certainly can see Swansea beating them as they put Blackburn to the sword. I think Spurs will also beat them and away from home Villa need that win. So if they beat West Brom at home that leaves them to get four points from the other two away game at Stoke and Sunderland. No easy task and as we have been kept reminded this season, every game is going to be tough. Now hands up who thought we would get nine points from our last three home games! Shocked

The key aspect of Bolton's run-in is not whom they play, but how frequently they play. Remember Forest last season. Lots of pundits tipped them to overtake us, Cardiff and Norwich because of their form and games in hand, but we knew that with 9 games in four weeks, they were always going to drop a lot of points, and sure enough they did. It won't be that extreme for Bolton, but the effect will be significant I'm sure. I think we just need another 4 points. That won't take us above Wigan, (nor will 6 which is what I think we'll get), but it'll mean Bolton need 7 and Blackburn need 8 and I think that will be enough.

If we get 6, and I believe we will, then Blackburn can't afford to lose another game, and Bolton's fixture congestion put them in a similar position. We just have to make sure we beat Chelsea and Stoke.

I'm not convinced Bolton can rotate and save players for the matches they think they can win. This is only going to work if they start the sequence winning. They are going to have to put out their best side against Swansea and Villa and if they don't get anything from those games they're in big trouble.

5 games in 15 days is going to have a really corrosive effect if they don't start well.

If and its a big if, they lose and we win at the weekend, 5 points gap is going to look like a mountain to climb regardless of the matches played column.
