Why Greece are through and Russia are out?
Both plated 3: Won 1 drew 1 & Lost 1 = 4 points
However while Greece have a goal difference of 0 Russia have a +2 goal difference. In addition in their 3 games Greece scored 3 goals while Russia scored 5.
Anyway you look at it Russia did better than Greece.
So why are Russia going home, and Greece looking forward to a quarter final V Germany?
If it's because of the result between the two - then surely that comes further down the pecking order than goal difference and goals scored. _________________ Saturday 9th November 1968: QPR V Burnley in the First Division - I saw the Hoops for the first time and my obsession began!

So the result between two teams is an odd way to decide who goes through? Seems perfectly logical, just different from what you are used to. |

Yep, some countries are more used to that system than others. _________________ All or nothing! |

I'd agree, Greece beat Russia so they're through, makes sense to me _________________ @drkisch |
