Isn't it all about peer status. Remember kids demanding their parents bought them the "right" trainers. Ah, the happy good ol' days
Though I think the phone snobbery thing extends into folk's twenties (or worse).
While I'm here, my neighbours' child has been offered an unlocked HTC Hero for £70 (apparently in good condition) and, due, it seems, to her parents being over 40 and therefore too old to be trusted, she has asked my advice. Probably due to me being so technologically ITK etc. Except I've never had nor used an Android phone (gone straight to Windows), know no-one who uses one as all my (incredibly stupid) friends and family are besotted with Apple and I only know what it says on that Internet thingy (which can, believe it or not, sometimes be of little use). Should I tell her to ask a teacher for advice (as if)? or what? |

You can buy a nearly new season ticket for less than that. |

The Galaxy SII is the best for your money, ICS 4.04 now and Jelly Bean 4.1 not far off, or you can just root it and drop a custom rom on it.
You can snap one up for £200 now, bargain! _________________ If i had to live my life again, I wouldn't play the lottery. |

| £10.00, pay as you go a month for me, when I go mad. If I want to go somewhere I either remember the place or look at a map. |

I get this picture of people stumbling aimless about like the zombies in The Night of the Living Dead before we all had mobiles.
But wonderful as these phones are, nothing much has changed. _________________ If you cannot bring good news then don't bring any. |

People get so worked up at the Apple v Android debate. Surely it's all down to personal choice?

I'm rubbish at it Ux - that's all!
I had a compass in the sole of my shoe when I was a nipper, Tufs, I think they were, either that or Clarks - didn't do me no harm. |

I'm much the same. Always been PAYG, and I've had the same phone for 6 years. I keep thinking I'd like a smartphone, but I just can't bring myself to pay £400-500 for the privilege. _________________ In every dream home, a heartache. |

Hear hear DSH, I presume you're an Apple muppet like me then?
I've been using Apple products for 20 years, and even a friend of mine who works in IT and swears by PCs grudgingly admitted you'll struggle to find any PC that is as well made as well or lasts as long as its Apple equivalent.
But hey, horses for courses and I've never had a virus on any computer or Norton software in over 20 years.
Yes, I do have an iPhone 5, and I'd never touch Samsung with a barge pole. Had a fridge and a DVD player from them and both packed up within 18 months and they wanted nothing further to do with their products. _________________ Far better is it to dare mighty things, than to dwell in the twighlight that knows neither victory nor defeat - T Roosevelt |

Supply and demand Dom. Apple create fancy adverts with nice packaging of old technology and the army of drooling Apple zombies queue up to throw their cash at it, even though they know it's defective and doesn't serve it's primary purpose. Make sense? |

Well thanks for all the requested Android/HTC Hero advice. I'll tell the kid to forget it and go and amuse her music teacher instead. She might get a new iphone out of him (or the press). |
