I don't know about the HTC Hero, but I would recommend HTCs generally. Really intuitive to use, and the cameras are excellent (So much so, my digital camera is now completely redundant). _________________ 'Live every week like it is shark week' |

One of the few things I picked up in some very swift web research was that the Hero's camera is, apparently, rubbish |

About all the rest?
For me it's just been one of those "life's too short" choices we all make which has meant I really have never concerned myself with android phones nor even ever used one (it's only recently that I found out it's a google thing). I do know the Hero has been around a few years (so is it now outdated?) and while 70 quid is maybe only a day's football for some of us, for a young teenager it probably represents some reasonable saving and, since she bothered to ask my advice, I'd like to be able to give her some constructive feedback (and here is usually a good place to get reliable techy info). |

| I have the HTC One, no issues at all. It's up there with Galaxy SIII. I have heard poor reports about the Motorola handsets. Rumours are that the new W#*dows phone is actually quite good. |

"I'd never touch Samsung with a barge pole. Had a fridge and a DVD player from them and both packed up within 18 months"
Their phone manufacturing arm would apparently be far superior to their white goods division.
I wouldn't buy an iFridge just because i liked iPhone though.
That's why I have an LG tv, an Onkyo HT, Beko white goods and a Samsung SGSII. _________________ If i had to live my life again, I wouldn't play the lottery. |

I suspect there's a bit more of an obvious reason for a QPR fan to stay away from Samsung... _________________ 'Live every week like it is shark week' |

Hang on I got this. Samsung are Korean, the more money we pump into the Korean economoy the better it becomes. If it becomes very strong they may start up a rival to the premier league. This would lead to them taking JS Park from us, leaving us without our captain? |

Big fanof android and htc in particular. Had a hero shortly after they came out and it was fantastic. Then. Now have an HTC Sensation. About a year oldand running ics fine. This has a much better camera than the hero. Typing this on a borrowed lenovo tablet which I am clearly not used to yet. _________________ Just keep calm. |

So is the Hero (in good nick and with micro SD card) worth £70 or should I tell her to spend her money on something more recent? |

More recent, the Hero is ancient. The Orange San Diego is a lot of phone for a (relatively) little money. 8mp camera with flash, 1.6Ghz Intel processor, 1080p HD video recording, 1gig of RAM blah blah...

At the time of writing the phone was £200, it's now £170 from Orange. _________________ If i had to live my life again, I wouldn't play the lottery. |

There's her problem. £170 is a lot more than £70 in her eyes but what she can get for £70 doesn't exactly seem great. |
