Chelsea have lost out on their bid to buy Battersea power station. They were outbid by a Malaysian company with grand plans for the site.
Someone who can be bothered to look into this would rubbish this in no time I'm sure, but for now I like the possibility that this could be us outbidding them!!
Although I wouldn't want to move there anyway... _________________ Far better is it to dare mighty things, than to dwell in the twighlight that knows neither victory nor defeat - T Roosevelt |

That's a long way for Cardiff fans to have to travel. Let's hope for their sake 2+2 doesn't add up to this. _________________

Unlikely to be us, especially as Philip Beard said in the Standard yesterday:
"the criteria is that we need to find somewhere that hopefully isn’t too far from Loftus Road. Our fanbase is a very passionate, loyal and local one. We need to stay in the area if we can. That is almost a must.” |

I hate the idea of anyone turning Battersea power station into a football stadium. _________________ 'Live every week like it is shark week' |

Absolutely.
It's a perfect site for blocks of expensive flats with a shopping mall in the middle. |

For those who don't like the idea of Battersea as a new stadium, I can cheerfully tell you that our Malaysians' names don't seem to be in the lists of directors/personnel for either of the companies involved.
So it's reasonable to suppose that it's nothing to do with us. |

Well keep it quiet. I'd like some Chelsea fans to get annoyed by it even though blatantly untrue! _________________ Far better is it to dare mighty things, than to dwell in the twighlight that knows neither victory nor defeat - T Roosevelt |

£400M plus the cost of clearing the site plus the cost of building a new stadium complex?
Any football development would end up making the Emirates seem cheap. |

beardo??? when does one get the "o" of affection tagged on their name?? Isnt it meant to make a name shorter..
does that make TF "fernando" then ??
In the words of a swedish pop sensation..
"did u see that goal fernando?? was u at the game when barton earned his 80 grand???
Do you hear the drums fernado??? Its that fat bloke that is in that sheffield Wednesday band...
There was something in the air that night, Chelski were shite fernado.. They lost to rangers by a gap of two or three , a liberty, fernado....
Now we never thought that we could lose, theres no regret.
If i had to do the same again, i would my friend fernando... "

Battersea Power Station is 5.9 miles from LR (according to the AA Route Planner --- and that means it is probably less as the crow flies).
So if you are saying you don't think it's "local" perhaps local is not the word that properly expresses your sentiments. It certainly can't be said to be "too far" from LR in distance terms. Of course "area" is another word and a different ball game. But, unless we (or they) are talking Scrubs, BBC or as part of an eastwards extension of Westfield, where else within 6 miles could fit the bill? |

The traditional area of QPR support is a wedge going out into west and north west London from Shepherds Bush.
To move significantly out of that area would be commercially risky, as well as dragging a club from its community roots and traditions.
Arsenal knew that and found land in overcrowded north London for the Emirates, a short walk from Highbury. That's what well-run clubs do.
In terms of London and common-sense; Battersea is nowhere near Shepherds Bush. |

Any attempt at growth is always going to carry risk? And if we're hoping to have a bigger stadium and attract new fans to fill it then maybe we need to be a bit less parochial in our thinking? Surely, if the club is to grow into one that can consider itself a serious Prem club then we have to look at the whole of London as our "community" (certainly anywhere west of Oxford Circus?)?
It'd be interesting to know just how many R's fans on here can just walk out of their front door and amble along to their "local" club and how many have to make an effort with their journey to LR. |
