|
|
| Quote: | QPR have Paul Konchesky in their sights as the former Fulham defender eyes a move back to London and the Premier League.
The former England international was the one that got away from boss Mark Hughes just as he was lining up his Whites squad for 2010-11.
Sparky thought he had inherited an established left-back, but the 31-year-old was unable to resist the lure of Liverpool and rejoined Roy Hodgson for what turned out to be the manager’s ill-fated reign on Merseyside.
As soon as the current England boss was ousted from Anfield barely 31 games into the shortest stay of any Liverpool manager, Konchesky was also history.
New manager Kenny Dalglish farmed him out first to Nottingham Forest, who at the time stood a realistic chance of promotion to the top flight, and then to Leicester City, ditto, same hopes – only to see neither make the final transition.
Now, with the future of Taye Taiwo uncertain following the Milan defender’s loan spell, and Hughes just as likely to see Armand Traore as a left-sided midfielder, Konchesky is hopeful of finally meeting up with the Rs boss.
A close source said: “Decent left-backs are hard to come by – and Paul is certainly more than a decent left-back.
“He’s not had the rub of the green since joining Liverpool – but a lot of that was down to the preference of others.
“With Premier League sides wanting two players for every position, he could certainly do a job at QPR.”
Konchesky is one season in to a three-year deal with Leicester, and would command a near £1million fee – although Rs supremo Tony Fernandes has promised to make funds available for a raft of new signings after last season’s narrow relegation escape. |

That's the way I read it too!
I'm all for giving players a chance etc, but I really hope we don't pursue this one... _________________ Isle Of Wight R'ssssssssss |

And, rolling on a theme, name a couple of "better options" that are available and achievable. |

Not sure about this. Definately not going to get into Fabio again, but hasn't he been muted as a left-back signing? _________________ All or nothing! |

Risking nitty-picking here but communication between defenders is probably important if not vital? |

So it is true what they say about Fabio then? Are we going to sign up the sign language girl on the beeb, who struggled with the floods in Cockermouth? _________________ All or nothing! |

| the most (only) interesting thing in the article was that they had absolutely no information about Taiwo's situation, hopefully a good sign |

I must be missing the point here (not unusual I hasten to add), isn't Traore a left-back? Every time he got the ball last season (when he actually got a game) he went FORWARD and scared the pants off the oppo's rght back.
We dont need another left back - get rid of donkey Taiwo (looked too indecisive for me) and play Traore. _________________ Keep the faith - we're QPR forever |

A number of people think Traore might fill the left side midfield role in a 4-4-2 (but depending on who plays left back, he could play that role and drop in if/when the left back goes forward).
Traore, Faulin, Diakite and Taarabt/SWP/Mackie/Barton (where / = "or") would not be a bad midfield? |
