I can't stand England, haven't celebrated one goal so far this tournement and hope they lose against Italy.
But as Dunc said, Steven Gerrard was absolutely immense yesterday. A proper captains performance. |
I can't stand Soap Operas.
So I never watch them.
And I couldn't comment on any of the performers in any of them. |
The difference being that I was watching in the hope that I could see them crash out. _________________ Isle Of Wight R'ssssssssss |

Sign of the times I suppose having to read statements like that. Sad really.
SM, is it just because of the gruesome twosome, JT and LeJuge?! |
John Terry partly, but I haven't liked England for a long time.
Watching them in their friendlies (and most competitive games) bores me to tears. It's truly dreadful football and with the quality they have they should perform far better than that.
The players always haggle for the best bonus they can get before they've even kicked a ball at the tournement, that irks me greatly. I understand that it happens when signing for a club, but I always thought representing your country was the pinaccle of any players career and should be a priviledge? Not anymore...
They always look far more interested and bothered about playing for their clubs IMO. The number of players that suddenly pull out with knocks/injuries before lesser important games speaks for itself as far as that's concerned.
A massive contrast to a team like Scotland. Very poor quality, but those players more than match their supporters passion for playing for their country. I would feel proud to support them.
Fair play to anyone that feels different, but it just doesn't interest me in the slightest. _________________ Isle Of Wight R'ssssssssss |

| Scotland has a percieved passion for playing for their country. A bit like the slow kid that keeps going in a swimming gala puts in the most effort. |

This is the Chelsea method we have adopted and it has worked thus far. Much as I don't like it, it is the only way we can compete and I have enjoyed the matches so far. Usually with England, you are only guaranteed three good p1ss ups. Now they have got us another one and you never know, maybe the semi final and beyond. |
So do we want to lose to Italy, Germay or in the final? |
woudn't Germany would be in the semis and I think I could take that more because they play more expansive modern football. |

Well for me that does not stack up. To my mind, I support a team end of story. If QPR start to sign players whose attitude I don't like or have other question marks over them am I going to stop supporting them and hope they lose? Of course not. I support that team and the players therein just happen to be the current incumbents of the jersey. I have had alot of pleasure from following England all the way back to 1982, OK I wish we played better football and did not have certain players but that is just the way it is. It is all cyclical anyhow and one day the players won't earn the wages they do now. |

Yes? Italy (Quarters), Germany (Semis) or the Final (Opposition in which should/could be Spain but I wouldn't bet on it).
If we did win it many people would say it was a fluke and take the p**s like they did with Greece plus the Ukraine "goal" would always be held against us. |

Good for you Acton.
I don't have anywhere near the same amount of loyalty for England as I do for QPR... In fact I have virtually no loyalty for them whatsoever.
I've had hardly any pleasure from watching them, I find it dull and boring. Personally, I'll also take no pleasure from seeing John Terry be crowned a European champion on the International stage. The thought of him representing England is bad enough.
Perhaps it's different age groups or something. I know of some friends that have travelled over to Ukraine to watch England - I have others that have no interest in them at all. I sit firmly in the second camp, but it's each to their own. _________________ Isle Of Wight R'ssssssssss |

the players bonus and match fees all go to charity, it's something Rio Ferdinand set up a few years ago.
Not sure you can say the team lacks passion after they way they have played recently, good luck to you if you would rather support Scotland but they have players who pull out of internationals as well and play like chumps most of the time. |

Where is that dave? I've never heard of that before. I remember them complaining that their bonuses weren't high enough and there being a small uproad over it? _________________ Isle Of Wight R'ssssssssss |

it started around 2007 I think, all match fees and bonuses were paid to charity until 2010 initially but they still do it now.
Here is the only recent link i can find about it

Fair play, I've never heard of that before... It certainly wasn't the case in the past. I still think/assume that the bonus they win (a far more sizeable sum of money) is paid to the players, but that's a good gesture all the same. _________________ Isle Of Wight R'ssssssssss |

| lets be honest they can't have earned many decent win bonuses in recent years, they always have this thing that they get millions if they win something but thats like QPR saying we'll pay every player £20million if we win the Premier League next season. The money is pretty safe. |

They should have Stuart Hall and the late Eddie Waring commentating on their games. _________________ I'm Ray Gardner. I drink Blackcurrant Tango. Come and get me! |

It's working, we topped the group, we held the french fairly comfortably, there was actually an exciting game against the swedes and we dug in and won against a very fired up host side in a game we only needed to draw. None of the "big" teams are playing well, they're all grinding out results (spain v ireland aside). I'd say all in all it's going pretty well but there's no pleasing some.. |
And parking the bus was embarrassing tonight. All England could do was throw their bodies between the goal and the ball. Thank God that's over. |
